Dress Code Policy This policy was created in collaboration with numerous staff members within our school as well as related information with other schools in the Ottawa/Carleton area, from both the OCDSB and the OCCDSB School Boards. The school’s dress code adheres to the following principles: a) Respect for learning; In compliance with the Government of Ontario’s Code of Conduct and the Policies and Procedures of the OCDSB (Policy P.104.SCO), the following is considered inappropriate dress: 1. Sexually explicit or revealing dress* 2. Dress with wording or graphics that is racist, sexist, profane or demeaning to another person 3. Dress with wording or graphics that advocates violence 4. Dress with wording or graphics that advocates the consumption of alcohol or illicit drugs 5. Dress that is recognized by the OCDSB Safe School Committee to be associated with gang membership, which include pocket chains, and bandanas. 6. Laser pens (Safe Schools Policy), cell phones and pagers (Board Policy) *All students are asked to wear clothes that are clean and in good taste. The following are considered inappropriate: < low cut tops (halter or tube tops), tops with bikini straps, crop tops, muscle shirts. < sleeveless blouses/shirts are allowed provided they are not low-cut in the front, back or sides. < all tops must cover shoulders. < clothing that permits exposure of the navel is not acceptable, must be able to tuck shirt in. < shorts/skirts are allowed provided they are at least mid-thigh length. < torn jeans/clothing that reveals undergarments are not acceptable as well as low-rise jeans/pants that reveal the upper waistbands of their undergarments. Hats (excluding religious head wear) including baseball caps, toques, headbands or other headgear are not to be worn in the school. Outerwear is not to be worn or brought to classes. Radios, walkmans or discmans, (unless indicated by the students IEP) are also not to be brought to class.
Non-compliance with any of the above mentioned policies would result in the student being asked to remove certain items, or confiscation of those items until the end of the school day. If it is in relation to inappropriate dress, the student will be sent home to change. |
