Should You Worry
About The H1N1 Flu Virus?
There is no reason to panic, but you
should take precautions. Wash your hands often with soap and water
or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, particularly before eating.
Avoid physical contact with people who are sick and be sure to wash
your hands if you touch anything that you suspect may have touched
by someone who is sick.
H1N1 influenza spreads in the same
way that other flu viruses do - by direct contact with the eyes,
nose, or mouth, or through the air in water particles when someone
coughs, sneezes, or speaks. People who have the virus can be contagious
for approximately a day before their symptoms show, so if you suspect
you may have the flu, please stay home.
You are safe to return to school 24
hours after your fever breaks. You must be fever free without the
assistance of medication before you return. Please ensure there
is a plan with parents or guardians to manage a stay at home in
case of illness.

Brookfield Student
receives Award
On November 24, 2008, in the Senate
chambers on Parliament Hill, Brookfield student Anthony Curkeet-Green
was presented with an achievement award for being a remarkable student
and young man.
Anthony is a student with Aspergers
but this is not the message you receive if you are Anthony’s teacher.
What you see is a passionate student who goes far beyond the norm
in order to learn. When a subject fascinates him, his thirst for
knowledge is unquenchable, even long after the course is over. His
attention to detail and ability to analyze make him truly a pleasure
to teach. (see the Full

Camp Husky
October 3-5, 2008
On October 3rd to 5th, nearly 200
students from across Ontario participated in a WWII era training
camp at the Connaught Rifle Ranges in Ottawa. This was in preparation
for a 10 day trip to Ortona, Italy, in November. The purpose of
the trip will be to take part in commemorating the 65th anniversary
of the battle. Accompanied by Mr. Andrew Lovatt, three students,
Ray Way-Alessi, Emily Ewins and Collin Phillips from Brookfield
were given the opportunity to attend. Needless to say, they enjoyed
the many activities of the military camp. (See the Full

Counts at Brookfield High School
$10,000 Funding Announcement
Brookfield High School is the only
high school in Ottawa to be the recipient of a nationwide MusiCounts
grants. In total the program funded 68 schools country-wide to a
tune of $600,000 to purchase musical instruments.
Brookfield High School will receive
$10,000 specifically for the purchase of new instruments. Brookfield
music teacher Jeannie Hunter says the money will be used to purchase
some much needed percussion equipment, such as a marimba, guitars
to expand the guitar program, and a number of specialized wind instruments.
Ms. Hunter said, “These new acquisitions will help us further
our goals of musical excellence while making our program even more
accessible to our school population.”
